Managing Committee

TEF is governed by its Managing Committee comprising philanthropists, development professionals, journalists and academics. The Managing Committee provides guidance and oversight to TEF teams in the Head Office as well as in various Programme Management Units.

PoliticianJahangir Khan Tareen is a successful entrepreneur, progressive farmer and politician. He has rich and varied experiences in the private as well as the public sector. An entrepreneur by profession, he served as a lecturer and banker for a short period and then ventured into farming. He is credited with adopting professional management practices in his farming operations in Lodhran, Rahim Yar Khan and Ghotki. He is also responsible for establishing one of Pakistan's largest and most efficient sugar milling operations (Jamal Din Wali Sugar Mills) supported by its own sugar plantation and sugarcane research organisation. He served as the chairman of Punjab Task Force on Agriculture during 1997-1999 and Punjab Task Force on Wheat Procurement and Marketing during 2001-2002. In 2004, he became part of the Federal Cabinet as the Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives. He has been actively involved in the National Rural Support Programme and the Punjab Rural Support Programme and has served as Director of the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund. He is a founder Member of the Governing Council of the Punjab Vocational Training Council, the Chairperson of the Lodhran Pilot project and the President of Tareen Education Foundation.

Farooq Nazir Haroon

Public policy expert Farooq Haroon is a public policy expert with deep insights into the working of the public sector at the district and the provincial levels. As a member of the elite Civil Service of Pakistan, he had an illustrious public service career spanning over three decades, during which he served on key positions, such as the Deputy Commissioner and the Secretary to the Government of Punjab in various departments. Since his retirement in 2000, he has been working in the nonprofit sector. He served as the Chief Executive of the Punjab Rural Support Program and was able to extend Program's outreach to around 400,000 poor households. Currently, he is the National Program Director of the People's Primary Healthcare Initiative, which manages more than 3,000 primary healthcare facilities in 72 districts of Pakistan.

Rana Nasim Ahmad

Senior civil servant Rana Nasim Ahmad is a senior civil servant and has worked at key managerial positions in the Punjab province. He worked as the Secretary to the Government of Punjab in the Agriculture Department during 1999 - 2001. Then he joined the Jamal Din Wali Sugar Mills group and successfully transformed it into the largest sugar milling operation in Pakistan. He is also credited with setting up and managing the largest farming operation in Pakistan, which are spread over Rahim Yar Khan and Ghotki districts. He holds a Masters in Economics from the University of Punjab and an MBA from Saint Louis University.

Journalists Arif Nizami is one of the leading journalists in Pakistan. He is the son of the renowned Journalist and founder of Urdu Daily Nawa-e-Waqat, late Mr. Hameed Nizami. His family is known for its devotion for Pakistan Movement. He is the founder and ex Chief Editor of 'The Nation' - the English daily of Waqat Group. He is working as the Editor Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency. He has also served as the president of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) and All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS). He is Executive Board member of Asia News Network.

Muhammad Ahsan Rana

Muhammad Ahsan Rana

Head-Office, LahoreMuhammad Ahsan Rana is a development professional with extensive experience of working with public and nonprofit sectors in Pakistan. He has worked with the government at policy planning and implementation levels. In the nonprofit sector, he has been responsible for designing, developing and managing development programmes. He has also worked as a consultant with leading Pakistani and international organisations on various social sector projects. He has published in national and international journals/books and is a visiting fellow at various universities in Lahore. He holds a Development Studies PhD from The University of Melbourne.

Dr. Rashid Bajwa

Dr. Rashid Bajwa

Programme Manager Dr. Rashid Bajwa's career in rural development began in 1993 when he joined National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) as Programme Officer and worked as SAP coordinator between Government and NRSP. He worked as Programme Manager, Social Sector Services NRSP for seven months and subsequently completed his Masters in Public Health (MPH) from Nuffield Institute for Health, University of Leeds UK. Then he acted as Principal Staff Officer for six months in NRSP. As Chief Executive Officer & General Manager, National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), Dr. Bajwa played a pivotal role in evolving NRSP as the largest participatory programme in the country. He is responsible for all financial and programmatic activities of NRSP in over 30 districts in Pakistan. Dr. Bajwa has travelled widely to North America, Europe, Central and South Asia and participated in leading Sustainable Development Initiatives. Apart from the above, he is playing an active role in many international and national sustainable development assignments.

Mariam Khan Tareen

(DPRC) Mariam Tareen completed her Bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto in 2008, with a double major in History and Sociology; she then went on to complete a Master's degree in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London in 2009. Her Master's dissertation, entitled 'Rhetoric and Reality', was an analysis of the system of education provision in Pakistan, its inherent inequality, and the disconnection between education policy and practice. Currently, she is a Research Fellow at the Development Policy Research Centre (DPRC) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and has been involved in various research projects, including those on education.
